The label is named after the Basic Skinny Sweats, our one and only product in the beginning. Skinny Sweats as a brand has evolved slowly over the past few years to include everything you see here now. We believe in Slow Fashion- and this means many things to our mission.
Part of our slow fashion philosophy includes putting extra time and effort into a garment, and making it with details that can't be rushed. Like pinning and sewing words in ribbon. And taking the time to print garments by hand, one appliqué at a time. And always finding a to way to say yes when a customer requests a variation on one of our handmade styles.
It's also about being slow to change and evolve, choosing quality over quantity, and making garments that have nothing to do with trends. Don't get us wrong, we love trends. But we're also not afraid to sell the same style for years.
As designers and makers, we believe strongly in the importance of garment finishing to produce a well designed product, inside and out. Everything we sell is either made in small batches in Toronto, Canada, or made to order in house. Like, we make it for you, when you order it. We are very happy to also be making our own fabric in Toronto, and to be choosing our own colour stories with small batch garment dye. Most styles in the Skinny Sweats line are made in Toronto from fabric to finishing.
We work with three local manufacturers, two fabric mills, one dye house, and one fabric printer. The small run supply chain developed in Toronto over the past four years is quick when it needs to be, and always mighty.
As a brand, we are committed to producing the best creative loungewear we can. The work and the process is the art.
Skinny Sweats is designed and managed by Adrienne Butikofer. Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba she’s been passionately designing and selling her work in Toronto for over a decade. She started producing fashion forward casual clothing after the birth of her two daughters and hasn’t looked back.
